How does Chiropractic work?

Chiropractors are educated and trained (5 years at Uni) to locate spinal and joint dysfunction, using up to date diagnosis and analysis, including thorough physical & neurological examinations and if needed, Xrays, CT scans and/or MRI’s.

Chiropractors then correct the spinal or joint dysfunction that has been identified, using spinal and joint adjustments.

Adjustments are subtle movements of the joint or vertebrae to help them move, function, and align better. This is done with the purpose of restoring normal nerve function and to reduce the mechanical stresses on the spine or joint.

Adjustments are very safe, natural, and can be done on people of all ages. We have infants get adjusted after birth, the elderly commonly get adjusted to stay well, balanced and mobile, and most certainly all ages in between benefit by keeping their spine healthy and functioning at its best.

Spinal Adjustments are only done to those areas of the spine that need help. Because the spine’s function improves almost instantly from the adjustment, people commonly report an instant feeling of ‘wellbeing’ from being adjusted. The experience is one often described as ‘feeling free’, feeling ‘more aware’, feeling ‘less tense’, feeling ‘clearer’ and more ‘relaxed’ to name a few of the descriptions that our patient’s have used.

Adjustments are an excellent way to keep the body functioning well, so that you can keep doing the things that you love.

Our unique chiropractic and health care approach is designed to help you see improvements quickly, while promoting long term health and wellbeing.

What to expect?

Going to the Chiropractor could be a new experience for you. And If you have been getting pain of any sort, it’s a pretty strong message from the body saying it’s time to do something about it.

Just before we go on... Every patient who comes into the practice is different and every case is treated individually and uniquely. There are many people who seek Chiropractic care who aren’t in pain or discomfort. The questions and physical & neurological examination are always customised to every patient and their needs.

One example of what you may expect is as follows...

UPON ARRIVAL
Upon arriving at the practice, you will be met by one of our awesome team at the reception desk and they will give you a warm welcome.

QUESTIONNAIRE
They will ask you to fill in a confidential patient questionnaire. (If you haven’t already been emailed the form prior to your appointment) This should take about 5 to 10 minutes and if you need any help at all, the team are there to assist you in any way.

INTRODUCTION & DISCUSSION
You will then head off to one of the private treatment rooms and be introduced to your Chiropractor.

Your Chiropractor will begin by reading your completed questionnaire and then collecting a detailed medical and family history from you. He or she will also ask you about your symptoms and about the discomfort or pain you are experiencing. You can also discuss with your Chiropractor your concerns and expectations and you will have the chance to ask any questions you may have. Some of the things your Chiropractor will want to know is …when the pain or discomfort started, where it’s located, what it feels like, what makes it worse and what alleviates it, and if it was accompanied by injury or trauma.

COMPREHENSIVE EXAM & TREATMENT
Next your Chiropractor will conduct a comprehensive physical exam. Here he or she will test your range of motion, look at muscle tone and strength, and examine neurological integrity. Depending on the symptoms and the condition present, your Chiropractor may treat you at this time or may ask you to get further diagnostics done, such as xrays, a CT scan or MRI. If further investigation is required we will refer you to a local Radiology Imaging service and you will find that you can be seen almost immediately and that most of their services are bulk billed.

RESULT PLAN OF ACTION
Once this is complete, we’ll take a look at the overall results of your examination and imaging reports and come up with a plan of action.

A natural way to heal

Chiropractic has a natural way of looking at health and the human body. It’s based on the idea that the body is actually hard-wired to be self-sustaining and self-healing. Think about – if you accidentally get a paper cut – the cut will eventually heal, just as we heal from surgery or other types of trauma, fractures, sprains etc ..we don’t have to think about it, our body is hard wired to try and heal and stay well. It is only when there is interference to that system that we find ourselves in pain, sick and suffering.

The body, in essence is completely controlled by the brain, and the brain connects to the body via the spinal cord, with vast networks of nerves connecting and supplying every muscle, organ, tissue and cell. When this system is not functioning at its peak, usually the overall performance of the human body is less than its best.

In chiropractic, drugs and medicine are not utilized as a form of treating a patient. While supplementation and nutrition are almost always a part of the bigger picture, drugs and prescriptions are often viewed as only addressing the symptoms of the problem rather than the cause.

While it’s often perceived that the chiropractor is solely here to treat back and neck pain. What our wonderful patient’s tell us, is it is so much more than backs, necks and shoulders. They feel more energetic, more vital, healthy and well. Chiropractors now days are seen largely as helping to improve an individual’s overall health and well-being, allowing them to enjoy what they love to do.
