What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a health care discipline based on the scientific premise that the body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism.
The self regulation and other important functions are controlled by the brain, spinal cord, and all the nerves of the body. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the musculo-skeletal system) and function (the nervous system) and how that relationship affects all functions of the body, including the body’s self preservation and restoration of health.
If for some reason the nerve pathways, that connect the brain with the body via the spinal chord are impaired - malfunction of the muscles, tissues and organ function throughout the body can result.
Chiropractors are trained to locate areas where spinal stress occurs, through a thorough examination of the spine. Soft tissue massage and specific gentle spinal adjustments then help to reduce the irritation to the nervous system.
Allowing your body to regain balance and strength.
More than ever before, what we have noticed over the years is that people are now taking greater responsibility, and even more control of their health outcomes rather than waiting for too long, until their health and vitality is lost.
Chiropractic is the largest drug-free health care profession in the world and chiropractors focus on working with the body’s own innate capabilities to be well.
At SHG we see families, athletes, children, seniors, office workers, and tradies. All walks of people seek chiropractic care.
Now days Chiropractic has become for many people a preferred choice for being well and staying well.
A registered chiropractor in Australia must have studied a minimum of an accredited 5-year University education – and are bound by the rules & regulations of AHPRA – the governing body of all primary health professionals.

How does Chiropractic work?
Chiropractic is based upon the understanding that good health depends, in part, upon a normally functioning nervous system.
Chiropractic works by helping to restore your body’s innate ability to be healthy.
When under the proper control of a healthy spine and healthy nervous system, all the cells, tissue, and organs of your body are designed to function well and be pain free, and resist ill health.
The chiropractic approach to better health is to locate and help reduce any interferences to your natural state of being healthy.
A common interference to the nervous system can occur at joints, particularly those 24 moving bones of the spinal column and pelvis.
A loss of normal motion or position of these bones can irritate or impair the function of the nervous system. This can disrupt the transmission of nerve impulses from the brain via the spinal nerves to the rest of your body.
Chiropractors aim to improve nervous system function primarily through soft tissue techniques and gentle chiropractic adjustments to help remove any interference that may be impairing normal health.
In other words,
‘We help you be healthy and at your best by restoring the communication pathways between your brain and your body’
This is called Chiropractic!

Approaches to Chiropractic Treatment
1. Symptomatic Relief Care
Here our goal is to reduce or eliminate your pain or symptom as quickly and as easily as possible. This is the most intensive stage of care aiming to restore joint function and control inflammation as quickly as possible.
2. Restoring Function & Mobility
So the initial symptomatic relief is complete and you’re out of pain and discomfort.
Functional Restoration is where our objective is to correct any underlying functional spinal problems as well as strengthen muscles, improve spinal function and promote healing of soft-tissue. Helping you prevent the condition from happening again.
This treatment addresses the long term bad habits of your spinal movement and posture, retraining muscular support and how your spine moves.
This type of care requires consistent regular treatment over weeks or months, depending on your condition.
3. Health & Wellness Care
This is how you stay well. (It is easier to stay well than to get well)
As a part of a natural healthy lifestyle, people recognise that along with good nutrition, regular exercise and emotional wellbeing … proper body function is essential for good health.
Some patients choose to receive regular chiropractic check-ups to help ensure that the body continues to function at it’s best. It is an opportunity where any little minor issues can be sorted out before they become painful or symptomatic.
Just like maintaining your car or tending to your garden – regular attention to the little things often reduces the need for major overhauls and significant amounts of pain.
You’re the Boss
At the end of the day, regardless of your health goals, please understand that we are here to help and serve you. You’re the boss!
It’s your body, your health and your future. Our job is to offer you the best chiropractic health care possible, and once we’re through the symptomatic relief phase, it’s your choice as to what approach to care you’d like to take.
